The purpose of the study was to examine Factors Related to Computer Use by Teachers in Classroom Instruction
in Nuwera Eliya Educational Zone. In this regard the researcher investigated ICT skills and training provided to
teachers and what are the software applications they use for class room teaching. The study also explored Purposes
which the computer technology is being used by teachers in classrooms and factors influence teachers to use
computers in their teaching. The researcher used random sampling method to select 30 teachers from 6 schools
from Nuwera Eliya educational Zone. Methodologically, the study followed Quantitative and Qualitative research
techniques including questionnaires, observation and interviews. Quantitative techniques such as percentages,
tables and charts were used to analyze data. And qualitative techniques also used for data analysis. A very high
number of teachers 75% reported that they had not received ICT training. It was identified that the most of teachers
40% have evaluated that their computer literacy was unsatisfactory level even though they had trained. Many
teachers received training in the use of Power Point 90%, word 90% and Excel 75%. It is indicated only 05% of
teachers use computer technology for teaching. It was identified positive factors and negative factors which are
influence teacher use of computer usage. The study recommends that the findings of this research could be used by
policy makers in the field of computer education in Sri Lanka. |
