Difficulties in Translation of Metaphors and Strategies to be adopted to overcome those Challenges

Abstract

Language may refer either to the specifically human capacity for acquiring and using complex system of communication or to a specific instance of such a system of complex communication. Two languages do not resemble each other.in this context, there is a necessity for a translation to communicate between two different languages. Translation has to be effected in a linguistic approach “Linguistics quite clearly does have something to offer the study of translation Metaphors occupy an important place in the usage of figures of speech. Mainly it refers to physical entities and experiences. Figures of speech including metaphors cannot be translated literally. Translators must have the cognitive skills to transfer the conative meaning of the metaphors to the TL in its suitable environment. Metaphors are pervasive in everyday language not merely as a poetic tools or a rhetorical symbol. It can also serve as a tool of linguistic change and innovation. The metaphors are frequently used in order to highlight the conceptual ideas of metaphorical nature. The study describes in the present articles the characteristics of metaphor, types of metaphor, methods, strategies to be applies and difficulties experiences in the process of metaphor translation. The aim of this research is to analyze the problems (cultural) in the process of literary translation of metaphors in the socio cultural background. In a multicultural society, metaphor are used in different ways of expression with different meanings.in this context, the purpose of the analysis is to find ways to overcome the cultural and linguistic barrier in the translation of metaphors. This research deals with the cognitive frame work and cognitive translation hypothesis. This research attempts to apply descriptive, and comparative methods to translate metaphors in the back ground of established approaches. Then the comparative analysis the relationship metaphor between the SL and TL.
