Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic is the most crucial world health disaster of the 21st century, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. As of 3rd, February, 2021, the global death toll surpassed 3 million amid more than 110 million cases. This virus mainly spreads from person to person, primarily from the nose or mouth. People can catch the COVID-19 if they breathe or swallow these droplets from an infected person. These droplets are comparatively heavy, do not travel far and quickly drop to the ground. The Real time RT–PCR is one of the most broadly used laboratory techniques for detecting the COVID-19 virus. Wearing the masks, maintaining social distancing between people and washing the hands with soap or sanitizer frequently are some of the efficient methods that reduce the spread of this disease. Government of Sri Lanka has implemented several measures to curb the spread of infection. Important features of management of the COVID-19 in Sri Lanka are extensive contact tracing, early intervention, timely isolation of all the possible contacts and providing organized quarantine facilities for contacts. Several vaccines have been proven to be efficacious in preventing the Covid-19 infection. Uncertainty of the diverse COVID 19 vaccines in practice and their global access have been a challenge still. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a spirit of collaboration to industries and people and creates us a chance to reimagine what’s possible moving forward.
