dc.description.abstract The Geomorphological aspects of Jaffna Peninsula and its adjoining islands have been analysed by employing one of the remote sensing techniques (interpretation of Aerial photographs) and ground truth (extensive field checks). In the present study an attempt has been made to establish a fresh concept in relation to evolution of Jaffna Peninsula and its adjoining islands. Various salient character of morphological aspects of research area have been identified and delineated. As a result of this research a morphological map of Jaffna Peninsula and adjoining islands are compiled. In all the above research work, ITC-system of Netherlands has been adopted, especially to extract informations from the Aerial photographs. The entire work has been divided into five major chapters. The first chapter deals with the General background information in relation to the Jaffna Peninsula and adjoining islands such as ‘Title of the research problems’, ‘Location of research area’, Objective of the research’, Hypothesis’, Previous works’, ‘Database’, and ‘Methodology’. The next chapter deals with the physical background information in relation to the research area. Third chapter deals with the formation of Jaffna Peninsula and its adjoining islands. Evidence in relation to Geology and Geomorphology have been systematically analysed in this part. Hyphothetical models have been built up for explaining the formation of Jaffna Peninsula and its islands. Fourth chapter describes the main morphological aspects of research area. Morphological units have been demarcated and shown in the maps. The last chapter deals with the summary of research and conclusion. Also incorporated the validity of research Hypothesis and conceptualization. en_US
