Abstract: The main objective of the study is to identify the impact of internal audit practices on the satisfaction of the administrators in the state universities of Sri Lanka. This study considers two top, middle, and bottom national and international rank Sri Lankan state universities. A developed questionnaire was used to collect data from the administrators of selected state universities. Descriptive analysis reveals that the internal audit practices of selected state universities are below a satisfactory level. Internal audit practices on administrative system review are below than moderate level of satisfaction. Regression analysis confirms that internal audit practices significantly impact the satisfaction of administrators in selected state universities of Sri Lanka. There is a significant association between internal audit practices and the satisfaction of administrators in this study. Based on the study's results, top management of state universities ought to consider improving internal audit practices and reforming the internal audit system in state universities of Sri Lanka. The depth of the literature review highlights that it is the first empirical study that has assessed internal audit practices and the satisfaction of administrators in state universities of Sri Lanka.
