Sarmatha, S.; Sivapalan, C.C.A.
The aim of this study is to examine Anne Ranasinghe’s Holocaust poems on the basis of Memory and Trauma. In the literary world Anne Ranasinghe is known as a Holocaust writer and her collection of the Holocaust poems bears considerable stress on the importance of memory and trauma. In this sense reading Ranasinghe’s holocaust poems bring the awareness that her poetry is a powerful mode of reminiscence of the past and traumatic sensationalism. This concept stimulated the exploration of her holocaust poems on the basis of Memory and Trauma. The main objective of this research is to examine how Ranasinghe captures the horrors of the genocide in Germany during the World War II and how she links her past traumatic memories to the present happenings in Sri Lanka. Though she had been associated with the two different cultures she seems to find no differences between these two nations, Sri Lanka and Germany in the frame of political turmoil and upheavals. The qualitative methodology of this research will be carried out through texts, journals, informal interviews and articles written by renowned scholars in literature. This research will be helpful to empower the people who have undergone a horrific experience during the ethnic conflict and it will enhance the performance of students.
