Abstract: நாடகங்கள் இயல்பாகவே அவை எழுதப்பட்ட சமகாலத்தினை பிரதிபலிப்பதாக அமையும். இவ் இயல்பினை பல்வேறு பண்பாடுகளின் நாடகங்களும் அவை காலந்தோறும் ஆற்றுகை செய்யப்பட்ட வரலாறு மூலமாகவும் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும். இது தமிழ் நாடகங்களிற்கும் பொருந்தி அமையும். ஈழத்துத் தமிழ்ச் சூழலைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் காலனித்துவ காலத்திலும் சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் பின்னான காலப்பகுதியிலும் நாடகங்கள் மேலாதிற்கு எவ்வாறு எதிர்வினையாற்றியது என்பது தொடர்பாகவே இந்த ஆய்வு கவனத்திற்கொள்கிறது. இத்தகைய நாடக வெளிப்பாடுகளை பண்பாட்டு எதிர்பாக விளங்கிக் கொள்ளலாம். இது குறித்த ஒரு பிரச்சனை தொடர்பான விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்ப்படுத்தி அதற்கான நீதி தொடர்பான கதையாடல்களை உருவாக்க வல்லது. இந்த ஆய்வு இலங்கையில் எழுதப்பட்ட சங்கிலி பற்றிய நாடகங்களுள் எஸ்.தம்பிமுத்துப்பிள்ளையால் எழுதப்பட்ட சங்கிலி அரசன் நாடகம் (1903) மற்றும் பேராசிரியர் கணபதிப்பிள்ளையின் சங்கிலி (1956) என்பனவும் பூதத்தம்பியின் வரலாறு தொடர்பான நாடகங்களில் நல்லையாபிள்ளை எழுதிய பூதத்தம்பி விலாசம் (1888) மற்றும் த.சண்மகசுந்தரம் எழுதிய பூதத்தம்பி (1964 )ஆகிய நாடகங்கள் இங்கு ஆய்விற்கு எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுகின்றன. இவற்றோடு தொடர்பு டையதாக பொருத்தமான இடங்களில் தமிழில் எழுதப்பட்ட ஏனைய வரலாற்று நாடகங்கள் ஒப்பிடப்படுகிறது. இந்த வரலாற்று நாடகங்கள் எவ்வாறு குறித்த வரலாற்றினூடாக ஒரு சமூகத்தின் கூட்டு மனநிலையை பல்வேறு காலப்பகுதியில் வெளிப்படுத்தியது? என்பதில் இவ் ஆய்வு கவனம் செலுத்துகிறது. இலங்கையில் பின்காலனித்துவமும் தமிழ் நாடகங்களும், தமிழ் வரலாற்று நாடகங்களும் வரலாற்று உருவாக்கமும், சங்கிலி மற்றும் பூதத்தம்பி நாடகம்: காலனித்தவகாலம், சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் பின்னான இலங்கை என்ற விடயங்களுடாக நாடகம் எவ்வாறு ஒரு பண்பாட்டு எதிர்ப்பு வடிவமாக இருந்தது என்பதனை விளங்கிக் கொள் கிறது. இந்த வரலாற்று நாடகங்கள் ஒரு பண்பாட்டு எதிர்ப்பாக அரசியல் கதையாடல்களிற்கு வடிவம் கொடுத்தன. நடைமுறை அரசிய லிலும் ஏனைய சமூக முரண்பாடுகளை அணுகுவதிலும் தீர்வுகளை நோக்கிச் செல்வதிலும் செல்வாக்குச் செலுத்தியுள்ளது. இவ்வாறாக எழுதப்படும் நாடகங்கள் அவ்வக்காலத்தின் சூழமைவில் வைத்துப் புரிந்து கொள்ளப்பட வேண்டிய அதே வேளையில், இந்த வரலாற்று நாடகங்களின் சமகாலத் தேவை என்ன என்பதனை விளங்கிக் கொள்வதும் முக்கியமானது. இலங்கையில் இனமுரண்பாடும் அதன் மேலாதிக்கம் தொடர்பாக வெளிப்படையாகப் பேச முடியாத நிலையில், அவை காலனித்துவத்தின் மேலாண்மையைப் பேசுவதனூடாக இந்த வரலாற்று நாடகங்கள் சொல்லவரும் செய்தி என்ன? என்பதும் நாடகங்களினூடாக பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட அரசியல் வரலாறும் சமூக வரலாறும் எவ்வளவிற்கு சமூக நிலமைகளின் மீது எதிர்வினையாற்றி யுள்ளது என்பதனைக் கண்டுகொள்ள முடியும். 2023-01-01T00:00:00Z http://repo.lib.jfn.ac.lk/ujrr/handle/123456789/4762 Title: From Lament to Drama – Analysis of “The laments on Ariyathi Wife of Vellappanikan” Authors: Navadharshani, K. Abstract: It is the believed that “The lament on Ariyaathai wife of Vellappnikan” was composed during the Dutch period in the Vanni region. There is evidence to prove this. This story is based on the sufferings faced by the inhabitants of Vanni due to the tributes paid to the dutch by Vanni chieftains. The hierarchical relationship among Dutch, Vanni chieftains and the inhabitants of Vanni mostly affected the inhabitants. This story is about one of the victims of the inhabitants during the colonial period.Vellappanikan belongs to the Pannikar caste. They had the skill of taming the elephants, One of wife of Vellappanikan; Ariyaathai wsa appointed to catch a tusker by the chieftains. Then Ariyaathai went to the dark forest and used her psychic power and the tusker fell down. At the very end, Ariyaathai and the tusker died. It is an exceptional text that Vellappanikan – husband of Ariyaathailamented for his wife Ariyaathai. Earlier this story was composed in the elegiac form; written on the palm leaf. Then later lament was altered and edited in the various socioculture context and also it was composed in koothu aqnd other genreas of theater forms.This research analyses and compares the different versions of this story. The structural method will be used to understand the changes in detail. The historical background, the lament – voice of the weak, reflecting the histories, politics of the story of Ariyaathai will be analyzed.It is one of the rare portrayals of woman characters with psychological depth. Abstract: The Tamils has a long tradition of theatre performances in Sri Lanka. Kutu, Isainatakam, there are different genres and forms such as Koothu (Story depicted through a series of dances), Villasam (operatic aspects with prose forms), Isai Nadakam (operatic in style) and dialogue dramas. The dialogue dramas emerged during the 19th century onwards. In the 1930s Prof.K.Kanapathippilai (1903- 1958); linguistic and Tamil professor and the Head of the department of Tamil, University of Peradeniya from 1947 to 1965, started to write dialogue plays using colloquial Tamil language spoken in day to day life. This was a landmark attempt in the Tamil theatre history. And also his plays are theatrically, historically, socially, played significant role. Though he had not labeled as postcolonial play write, the works reflect the immediate postcolonial life of the indigenous. It a descriptive analysis based on the dramatic text of Pro.K.Kanapathippillai ‘Udaiyar Midduku’ (1940, the supremacy of Udayar). This study concentrates on the dramatic text in its context, understand the anatomy of the text and identify the historical importance of the play.
